One is a dedicated preset aptly named ‘Dynamic Contrast’, whilst the other is a setting found in the ‘System’ section of the OSD called ‘Dynamic Brightness’. The dedicated preset reacts very rapidly and is more dynamic, making more significant adjustments and dimming more effectively. The ‘Dynamic Brightness’ setting takes a gentler approach. With both settings you can adjust ‘Brightness’ to limit how bright the setting will go. As usual we prefer manual control over brightness for SDR compared to Dynamic Contrast – and if you want a more dynamic experience, the ‘Local Dimming’ setting would be a better option. The table below shows gamma and white point readings taken using a Datacolor SpyderX Elite colorimeter, alongside general observations by eye.
- When appliances like TVs, mobile phones or laptops boot up, sometimes not everything goes right.
- Updates to the BIOS are frequently used to solve problems, add features, or both.
- For a big heavy beast that’s over a meter wide, having this range of motion in the stand is impressive.
The Samsung S95B OLED is a better overall OLED than the LG B2 OLED. The Samsung gets brighter for a more satisfying HDR experience and displays a wider range of colors. While the Samsung is better for watching bright content in bright rooms, it isn’t as good for watching dark content in bright rooms because reflections cause the black levels to raise, making them look gray. If that bothers you, using the B2 in a bright room is better.

Flash brightness is also very strong at over 1100 nits, matching some of the better FALD HDR monitors that we’ve reviewed. We also see around that 1100 nit mark at low window sizes below about 25%, so small bright elements are brightly lit on this monitor, with a fall off to 650 nits at larger window sizes. We typically get solid results from a DisplayCAL calibration aside from a few inconsistencies here and there. This performance cannot be improved upon significantly with OSD setting adjustments. The best course of action here is a full calibration.
Update Using One of These Three Methods
After about 5 months of owning this monitor I started noticing a white line developing at the top on my screen. After another 2-3 months I found that the screen is literally pulling away from the monitor base. I would say, this monitor is totally worth in a flat panel version only. Due to the 1000R curve and the lack of quality control I’m stuck with a great monitor that I can’t stand looking at. Even thought about purchasing another one with a longer warranty but still the chance of the screen coming off the base of the monitor is always on the back of my mind.

The backlight bleed is arguably worse for blacks, where we could notice the bleed under reasonably bright lighting which is not good. And in a dark room, the bottom edge of this monitor almost has an IPS glow-like appearance. VAs tend to be decent in this regard, so the Odyssey G7 is a significant outlier and we suspect most people who end up with a unit like mine will be able to notice this bleed. Looking at refresh rate compliance, we thought there was a high chance the Odyssey G7 wouldn’t be fast enough for a true 240Hz experience, but were totally wrong on that front. Over 90% compliance is excellent and what you’re left with is a low motion blur, low smearing 240Hz panel. The rear of the monitor features this unique pattern that draws attention to the center circle where the display is mounted to the stand.
To update the firmware on your Dell gaming monitor, first download the latest firmware file from the Dell website. Then, insert the USB drive into the USB port on the back of the monitor. Finally, press the menu button on the monitor and navigate to the “Update Firmware” option.
No issues with black light bleed or anything of that sort. Just an overall good monitor that gives amazing colors with the contrast to support it making things pop far better than an ips ever could provide. The Samsung Odyssey G7 S28AG70 and theDell G3223Q are both excellent gaming monitors. Overall picture quality is a bit better on the Dell because it gets brighter and https://www.meophamdentalcare.co.uk/step-by-step-guide-downgrading-samsung-firmware has better reflection handling, so it’s a better choice for well-lit rooms. Also, it has much better out-of-the-box accuracy and quicker response times, especially at lower refresh rates.
